Study: UV-C Will Not Replace Manual Cleaning, But Has a Place in Healthcare

July 13, 2020

UVC technology has been used in hospitals for many years, and Northwell Health commissioned a recent study to determine whether UV technology is able to reduce pathogens for the purpose of safer healthcare facilities and improved patient experience.

One important distinction that Donna Armolino, VP of Infection Prevention at Northwell Health, makes is that UVC technology does have a place in healthcare but does not replace traditional cleaning methods.  UVC technology is a critical supplement to traditional cleaning methods to reduce the pathogen load in a healthcare facility.

The study concludes that UV technology resulted in "significant overall reductions of the microbial burden on patient care equipment in all study phases".
